Our Commitment to the Environment

Being a good citizen means actively taking responsibility to ensure we’re doing everything we can to leave the Earth in as good a shape, or better, than we found it.

We recognize that being in the pickle business means that we’re in the vegetable business. And that means we’re in the Earth business. It’s critical that we are able stewards of the land we work. For our farms, partners, employees, neighbors, and customers.

2030 Goals

We’ve set a target to reduce our absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% by 2030. We developed this target using methodologies and tools provided by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Once we established our target, we committed to monitoring our GHG emissions beginning in 2024.

2024 Baseilne 100%
2030 Target 58%

What that means

We began collecting and evaluating GHG emissions data from our company operations in Michigan and Georgia. Scope 1 emissions are created by sources we own or control, and Scope 2 emissions are related to the electricity we purchase.

Our Scope 1 emissions

are direct, created by on-site natural gas combustion, diesel fuel use for operational activities, and, in some cases, ozone-depleting refrigerant loss.

Our Scope 2 emissions

are indirect, such as the electricity we purchase for our facilities.

We calculated these emissions using electricity usage data and region-specific emissions factors published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which reflect the local electricity generation mix.

2024 Emissions Inventory
Scope 1  1323.05 metric tons CO₂e
Scope 2 2844.54 metric tons CO₂e
Total Emissions 4167.59 metric tons CO₂e

Notes: Reported in metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. Emissions data have not been independently verified.

The First Bite at the GHG Pickle

You can’t make change without having good data. Now that we’ve undertaken this mission, we’ll continue to track and report our progress. This is just the beginning….
